Dental Veneers
Dental Veneers & Cosmetic Dentistry in Gainesville, VA
Â
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. Made of tooth-colored materials, veneers can improve the color of teeth that are worn or stained, or change the shape and size of a tooth.
Types of Veneers
Â
Two types of veneers are commonly used: composite resin (the same material as white fillings) and porcelain.
Â
-
Porcelain veneers are more durable and resist stains better, and the material creates a very natural-looking result.
-
Composite resin veneers are applied directly to the teeth rather than made in a lab. They typically don't last as long but cost less.
Talk to Dr. Adi about veneers if your teeth are:
Â
-
Stained or discolored
-
Crooked or misshapen
-
Spaced apart
-
Broken or chipped
How It's Done
Â
Porcelain veneers typically require two visits. The first visit has three key steps:
Â
-
Your teeth are prepared for the veneers. This can range from little or no preparation to trimming part of the tooth so the veneer can be bonded on top.
-
An impression of your teeth is taken and sent to a lab, where the veneers are made.
-
Depending on how much tooth structure was removed, you may receive temporary veneers to protect your teeth while the permanent ones are made.
At the second visit, any temporary veneers are removed and the new veneers are checked for fit. Because porcelain veneers shouldn't be adjusted after bonding, any adjustments are made beforehand. Once you and Dr. Adi are happy with the look and feel, the veneers are bonded to your teeth.
